The Tiwa Song and Dance Workshop commenced with its inaugural session today, January 21, at 2:30 PM at the multipurpose cultural centre of PROBAAH. Organized by the Assam-based NGO PROBAAH in collaboration with ONGC under its CSR initiative, the workshop aims to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of the Tiwa community.
The Hon’ble MLA of Nazira constituency, Mr. Debabrata Saikia, inaugurated the workshop. In his address, he highlighted the significance of Janajati Gourav Varsh and the invaluable contributions of indigenous communities to our culture. He also emphasized the importance of Tiwa songs and dances, delivering an inspiring speech to the attendees.
Officials from ONGC’s CSR wing, including Mr. Durgesh Bhatia, DGM of Human Resources (CSR), and Mr. Ajay Panthe, shared their insights on the critical role of such initiatives in preserving regional traditions and fostering cultural pride.
Master trainer and cultural mentor, Mr. Nadiram Deori, introduced himself and his team of trainers, setting the tone for the workshop with enthusiasm and expertise. Esteemed guests, including Mr. Dembi Ram Panging, Chairman of SEWA (Nazira-Sivasagar branch), Mr. Nipen Pegu, Joint Secretary of SEWA, and Mr. Diganta Mech, attended the event to extend their support.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Mr. Jog Gogoi, former of the President of Sivasagar District Sahitya Sabha, along with other prominent local personalities.
More than 50 enthusiastic students from local schools and colleges participated in the launch event. This 16-day workshop offers these young learners an opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant traditions of the Tiwa community, ensuring the preservation and promotion of its rich cultural legacy.
